Four Makeup Blunders You Should Avoid

Makeup, like fashion, evolves with time. What may have been in style in the 90’s may no longer be considered as appropriate and fashionable in this decade. Although retro styles, like the revival of leggings and polka dots, may prop up once in a while, you still want to avoid an outdated look.
To get on the loop of what is not hot, continue reading to learn the common makeup faux pas you need to avoid by all means. Pay attention.
Incorrect Foundation Hue
Picking the right color of foundation to suit your skin tone is of utmost importance. If you pick a color that is too light for you, you will either look like a porcelain doll or a clown. On the other hand, if the shade is too dark for you, you will look like a burnt gingerbread man.
If you want to know what color suits you best, you need to test it on your skin, preferably on your face. It is not ok to test it on the back of your hand because there is a big chance that the tone of your face is not similar to that of your hand. The best place to test if the foundation shade is right for you is by applying it on your jawline under natural light. If you have to, go far out from the makeup counter lights and check if the color truly matches your complexion.
Noticeable Blush Stripes
If you want to look like you stepped out of a music video from the 80s, then by all means do not blend your blush and ensure that a streak of makeup can be prominently seen from your cheeks to your ears. However, if you want to appear chic and updated, you should prefer a more natural look.
Instead of sweeping a thick red or dark brown blush on your cheeks, you should use rose or copper blush. Furthermore, it would be best to barely dust the apples of your cheek with some blush while bringing the brushstrokes up towards your ear. Lastly, don’t forget to blend your blush so as to avoid the dreaded blush stripe.
Penciled-In Eyebrows
Not so long ago, thin eyebrows were to die for. It was not surprising to see that even teen stars in Hollywood back then were sporting super thin brows. However, the movie and television industry probably realized that very thin eyebrows are not very attractive, unless a woman wants to look older than her real age. You see, thinning eyebrows is actually a sign of aging.
If you have naturally thin eyebrows or you are already showing some signs of becoming old, then it is all right to color your arches with makeup. Just make sure that you follow the arch of your brows with your pencil and after drawing the line, smudge your eyebrows a little bit with a brush so that the lines won’t look as if your two-year-old daughter drew them up with her lead pencil.
Partially Lined Eyes
Another makeup blunder that has persisted through the years is the partial lining of the eyes. This practice is not only out-of-date but it also defeats the purpose of the eyeliner. The reason why women put a line on their eyes in the first place is to enhance the eyes and give them more emphasis. Partial lining, whether on the top or bottom eyelids, will make your eyes look smaller.
It is important to note that eyeliners are easy to smudge. Thus, you need to be sure that your liner is waterproof or of good quality. You do not want to attend an important meeting with dark circles around your eyes. Incidentally, if the dark circles are caused by sleep deprivation or stress, then you need to do a more proactive approach. Use a concealer to minimize the dark appearances or deal with the problem by using eye gels and creams; having raccoon eyes are definitely unflattering. One eye cream that is effective in eliminating such problem is Eyevive. Learn more about the product by visiting http://www.eyevive.com/.

Face Lifts for Men Increasingly More Common

In centuries past, a man’s face told the story of his life. The more weathered and wrinkled, the more that man had truly lived.
As time moves forward, medical and technological advances have lead to people living longer and longer. Today, faced with the prospect of a long life leading into old age, a man’s face is as much a symbol of the life he has before him as the life he has lived so far.
Tellingly, it is becoming increasingly common for men to seek out the help of trained plastic surgeons. With a simple and cost effective surgery, any man can now fight off the signs of aging in their face.
Before diving into the world of facial plastic surgery for men, there are a multitude of factors to consider. As with any surgery, it is important to consider the risks. Your physician will be able to help you decide after taking a complete and thorough physical, including an extensive medical history.
It is important to be entirely open with your cosmetic surgeon. During this time, you will be given the chance to ask any questions that will help you weigh the unique risks and benefits of plastic surgery for men.
Based upon your needs, there may be a number of facial plastic surgery options that will appeal to the man looking to turn back the clock on his face. As men age, it is perfectly natural to develop excess fatty areas on or near the face.
Men afflicted with ‘jowls’ or ‘double chins’ may be able to find relief from simple surgery such as a neck liposuction or neck lift. In general, these procedures are an effective way to create a slimmer, more youthful face with few complications.
Men looking to restore their faces to their younger, smoother days may instead decide to opt for a procedure to eliminate wrinkles. Plastic surgeons are now able to remove the excess skin surrounding the face, tightening and smoothing the whole area with a full face lift or a brow lift for the forehead area.
The surgeon is also able to achieve a smoother look for patients by tightening the muscles running down the neck. Together, these two options can literally take years off of a man’s face with little to no scaring.
For some men, plastic surgery offers more than a chance to restore their fading looks. Modern plastic surgery can give a man multiple options for totally reconstructing his face, changing all those minor imperfections into a thing of the past.
Nose, cheekbones, even the eyelids: plastic surgery can be used to mold and reinvent a man’s face, creating a stronger, more virile look.
Due to the unique anatomy of men, even the recovery period can differ compared to women. Following procedures on the face, many men find their skin takes on a ‘pinkish’ glow as the skin recovers. Most men are not comfortable using make-up to conceal this temporary color change.
Fortunately, many men use this time to grow out beards to cover their recovering skin. As with any surgery, it is important to follow your physician’s advice to the letter.
So if you are a man considering a face lift, brow lift, eyelid lift, or even neck liposuction, there is no reason to hide it. With these procedures, your best days are still ahead of you!
For men in Northern Virginia, facelift, eyelid lift, and brow lift information, before and after pictures, and financing options can be found at Center for Plastic Surgery in the Washington DC area. Getting Your Hair Back In Shape - Not As Difficult As You Think

When I look at the advice columns of any of the beauty magazines that throng the magazine stands, one of the first things that strike me is the long list of young girls seeking advice to improve the condition of their damaged hair. If only they had spent a little time listening to what their mothers told them, they wouldn’t be fretting around the advice columns. As a so-called ‘hair care expert’ with a head that doesn’t fail to attract attention, it pains me to see that the girls are not able to follow simple tips to keep their hair in shape. It doesn’t take too much effort, and you too could have a mop of hair that keeps turning heads.
All you need to do is follow some simple advice.
Avoid Chemicals: Reduce the use of chemicals as far as you can. Artificial colors, synthetic shampoos, imitation dyes are all very harmful for your hair and may lead you to premature grey hair. Use the correct shampoo for your type of hair, and try to use nature based products for the best results. Alternatively, pull out that recipe book from the attic and use some of the home-products for hair care, for a cheap and efficient cure for your damaged hair.
Nourish Your Hair Well - They Need It: Eating a healthy diet and regular massage of your hair proves to be the best ways to keep your hair healthy. Yo-yo diets and fast foods are harmful, to say the least. Take a regular oil massage and retain the oil overnight to revive the nutrients of your hair, even if you wash it off in the morning to retain the bounce. Use good natural oil like olive, coconut, amla or almond. Home recipes like eggs, onion juice, yogurt etc also help - but that is the subject of a different article.
Water- The Elixir Of Life: You may have been sick of your grandmother telling you to drink more water all the time, but the fact of the matter is that her advice still holds true. The human body is composed mostly of water, and so are the cells of your hair. Like your skin, your hair also needs lots of water to remain supple and pliant.
Wash it down: Had a typical bad hair day? Never mind. Massage you hair with good hair oil and leave it on for at least an hour to soften the hair. Follow it up with a warm water shower with a mild shampoo to get your hair back in shape. Use a good conditioner to reduce the harsh impact of the cleansing, and let the hair dry naturally (driers are bad for your hair). Avoid using any chemicals or hair styling gels for a couple of days to let your hair regain its strength. Voila! Your hair is back to normal!
Choose Quality Over Cost: Use good quality hair accessories - they could make the difference between good and poor hair. Quality always counts. You may have saved a few pennies by buying a cheap brush, but the damage it will cause to your hair is likely to cost you a packet at the hair restoration clinic. Natural products are always better for your hair, and their use will avoid your being troubled by such minor irritants as dandruff and hair loss .
While the hair restoration clinic will be always more than happy to ‘treat’ your damaged hair to add to their profits, you don’t actually need to go there most of the time. Hair care is really quite simple, and you could well be excused for wondering why you missed it all in the first place. Trust me, I know. Or else I wouldn’t be writing these columns week after week.
The author is an expert in giving treatment to remove unwanted facial hair and ingrown hair. The author also gives cure for day to day problems like dandruff, head lice and gray hair.

Face Lift - How to Get the Most Out of Your Face Lift

It happens slowly … You start to notice a sag in your cheeks and your jaw-line looks tired. Eventually, you notice you’ve got full-blown jowls and your whole face looks tired and saggy. You look older than you feel.
Maybe you try some (or all) of the creams and lotions that claim to tighten and smooth the skin, but the results just aren’t happening. Sometimes the only thing to do is seek cosmetic surgery to get the noticeable results you want. A facelift may be just what you need.
- How to get great results:
- Do your homework and learn about the procedure
- Research, consult and get to know your doctor
- Follow all pre- and post-operative instructions to the letter
- Understand that additional procedures may be necessary
- Wear sunscreen every day
- Commit to a healthy lifestyle
The first step is a no-brainer. Understanding all that a facelift entails will help you decide if you are able to commit to the procedure. Realize that there are risks, some serious and some superficial.
For instance, scars may be more visible than desired even though the surgeon tries to hide incisions within the hairline. More serious risks include death of skin sections and paralysis in the face.
The facelift itself takes roughly four hours and sometimes a night in the hospital. Recovery is not pretty with visible swelling and bruising for at least two weeks. For the first five days rest is essential so going back to work is not recommended.
After that, you must decide if you want to go out in public. Make-up is not recommended until two weeks after the procedure. Look at before and after pictures, to include the recovery process. It will help prepare you for when the bandages come off.
Do your homework when it comes to choosing a surgeon. Having a board certified, experienced surgeon helps reduce the risks and increases the probability of a successful procedure.
Do not be afraid to ask how many facelifts he has performed and check for the board certification hanging on his office wall. Ask as many questions as you want; a good surgeon will not mind. Make sure you feel comfortable with the surgeon during the consultation. Researching the physician can mean the difference between a beautiful, youthful new you and having to hire another surgeon to fix a botched procedure.
Another way to maximize your results is to FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS! …
Your surgeon will give you a list of things to do before and after the face lift and it is imperative that you follow through. For example, stop smoking at least two weeks before the procedure, preferably two months.
Be honest about any medications you are taking and any physical conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. After the surgery, keep ice one the site to reduce swelling and sleep in a reclined position. If you do not follow these and the other instructions, do not expect optimal results.
It is possible your surgeon will recommend additional procedures such as skin rejuvenation or brow and eyelid lifts to achieve the results you ultimately want. Be prepared for this.
A traditional facelift tightens the cheeks and removes fat from the chin area correcting issues on the bottom half of your face. Wrinkles, uneven skin tone and other issues are still visible and will require other procedures. Depending on your expectations, your surgeon will make recommendations.
For long term results, it is up to you to protect yourself from environmental threats and to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Wear sunscreen every day to keep your skin healthy and moisturize to maintain supple smooth skin. Drink lots of water daily to keep the skin hydrated. A healthy diet and exercise are important as well. If you keep your insides healthy, your outside will be healthy.
These steps will help you have a good experience and a successful facelift. You can enjoy a more youthful glowing look and no longer look older than you feel.
For face lift, Fort Worth women and men seek out the skills of the staff at USA Plastic Surgery. Dedicated to beautiful, natural-looking results, their double board certified plastic surgeon has expertise in plastic and reconstructive surgeries. Plastic Surgery - Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck is an operation which is done to remove extra fat and skin from the abdominal area. There are some conditions because of which people can have excess fat and weak muscles in the abdominal area like pregnancy, significant fluctuations in weight or a prior surgery.
There are two types of abdominoplasty.

  • Partial abdominoplasty.
  • Complete abdominoplasty.

Partial abdominoplasty or mini tummy tuck is performed in the people who want to remove extra fat from the lower abdomen. This type of operation is less invasive and the recovery period is shorter as compared to complete abdominoplasty. Complete abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is performed in the people who need intervention in the area above the navel in addition to lower abdomen.
Tummy tuck is performed in three easy steps. The first step is anesthesia which is followed by first incision performed between the navel and pubic hair line. The second incision is made around the belly button. Extra fat and skin is removed through these two incisions and muscles are repaired and tightened. The recovery period of the operation is short and no post operative complications are seen. Post surgical scars disappear in few weeks. Results of the surgery are not seen in first few days as it is not possible to stand straight in early post operative period. After a couple of weeks a firm and toned abdomen can be seen.
There are some things which should be taken in account before taking decision of surgery. Person who wants to undergo abdominoplasty should not be a smoker. If somebody is planning to undergo tummy tuck he should not have history of systemic diseases.

Brazilian Keratin Treatment 411

Wildly popular in all the blogs and a hot topic in those social networking forums I love to hangout in, everyone seems to be thinking about getting a Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment (BKT). Wait! I type. Before you call your stylist to book your salon appointment, make sure you have all the info you need to make your choice. Silky hair is good, but with a Brazilian Keratin Treatment you might be getting more than you planned.
What you and your stylist may not know is that the active ingredient in these BKT “wonder” treatments is formaldehyde, which is a dangerous chemical, especially if you breathe it in. Hence the protective equipment - face masks, gloves, ventilation fans - as a safety precaution when giving or getting a treatment. Is straight hair worth wearing a gas mask? Now THAT’S something to consider.
According to Allure Magazine (we love them!) “some of the most popular BKT treatments contain at least ten times more formaldehyde than the .2 percent considered safe by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel. The FDA doesn’t currently regulate cosmetics, but they are investigating the safety of escova progressiva treatments.” Now, I’m no expert, and I have considered a BKT when I originally heard about them, but ten times more formaldehyde really sounds like a bad idea. Very bad. There’s no way that’s good for you.
The best, or I should say worst part about the Allure Magazine expose? I’ll loosely paraphrase here, but the gist is: “Keratin has nothing to do with straightening. Nada. There is nothing in Keratin that will change the structure of the hair, it’s the formaldehyde that makes the treatment work. Keratin is window dressing and provides a good marketing story.” Sounds like a sham to me. And really, who wants that kind of toxic treatment?
I’ll opt for my own straightening treatment - a super smoothing shampoo and conditioner combo, followed by a silky straightening lotion, a great flat iron and a strong thermal protectant. And maybe a trip to Brazil!

Flat Iron Buying Guide 101

Everyone asks me “Which flat iron is the best?” and I always answer, “What is your hair type?” before I answer with a specific flat iron. Unless you’ve tried it firsthand, chances are the iron you are thinking of buying might not be the best one for your hair. Let’s narrow down the choices with a few key questions.
Which plate width?
Determine which plate width you need - one inch does not fit all. Take the time to select a plate width for your specific hair length. Not all irons come in all sizes so this can help you narrow down your selection.
Fixed or variable temperature settings?
Flat irons come in fixed or variable temperature settings. The type that works best for you depends on your hair’s texture and your styling needs.
Is your hair thin, delicate, damaged or fine? Choose a flat iron with a variable temperature setting so you can control the heat and keep the iron from getting too hot.
Is your hair thick and hard to straighten? A fixed temperature would be a good choice for you so you can crank up the heat on those pesky pieces that just won’t straighten.
Is your hair is somewhere in between? Most likely you will be fine with either choice. My personal preference is a variable setting - I like control.
Does it create curls?
Most flat irons today will create curls, but (ahem) the curls are only as good as the user who creates them, so brush up on those curling techniques.
Which Technology?
Ok, this is really the source of most flat iron confusion. Most flat irons on the market today have similar straightening technology, but which is best? Again, that depends on your hair type and styling needs.
Ceramic/Ionic
Almost all professional grade flat irons are Ceramic and Ionic these days. This technology is important in generating negative ions to smooth the hair cuticles. What you may not realize is NONE of the flat iron plates are 100% Ceramic. That’s a myth. All plates are infused with Ceramic (and/or other materials) to straighten and smooth the hair. I kid you not!
Industry research shows that pure Ceramic plates would be too soft to get the job done, so all manufacturers (this means CHI, T3, Maxiglide, HAI - all of them!) use Ceramic along with a much stronger, heat conducting surface such as Aluminum, Titanium, etc. to straighten the hair’s cuticles. And boy do they work.
Aluminum
Some older, lesser quality flat irons are pure Aluminum. These irons are usually referred to as the “drugstore variety” and do not contain Ceramic. This is why you notice a huge difference when you upgrade to a pricier iron - the addition of Ceramic.
So you know what Ceramic does, but what about all of those other materials you keep hearing about? Tourmaline, Nano-Titanium, Nano Silver, Nano anything? These are additional materials used in the plates to enhance the smoothness of the plate’s surface, generate additional negative ions to smooth your hair quickly, and create a snag free glide down the strands. Here’s a breakdown:
Nano
This is a process where the material, say Tourmaline, is micronized into superfine particles and infused into the plate surface. Whenever you see Nano, think teeny, tiny pieces of a smoothing material infused into the plates. Nano-Ceramic, Nano-Silver, you get the idea.
Ceramic and Nano-Ceramic
Smaller particles of Ceramic to contribute to your smoothing process. This is good for every hair type. Most flat irons with Ceramic technology provide silky, straight results but there are a variety of price points. As for most irons I’ve tried, the pricier Ceramic irons really are better. Plus the more expensive irons usually come with additional features and benefits so be sure to look into this if you are considering a Ceramic iron. (Best Buy: ghd. See also: HAI, Paul Brown, CHI.)
Nano-Titanium
Super smoothing surface, great heat conduction, straightens hair up to 40% faster. Is it necessary? If your hair is hard to straighten, this is one of the best materials out there for you, newer technology but comparable to Tourmaline. If you want the latest technology you’ll like this. (Best Buy: Babyliss. See also: Hot Tools.)
Nano-Silver
A smooth surface that eliminates bacteria on the appliance creating a germ-free environment every time you use it. Great for a stylist, or germ-a-phobe. It straightens hair well, but do you have to have it? Probably not. (Best Buy: FHI Platform. See also: CHI Nano Silver.)
Nano-Tourmaline
Tourmaline is a semi-precious gemstone known for its negative ion generating and smoothing properties, and is infused into the flat iron plates. This is earlier technology than Nano-Titanium and Nano-Silver. I sometimes find that Tourmaline causes static, but still a very good material for smoothing most hair types. (Best Buys: FHI, Bed Head. See also: HAI Elite, T3.)
Does it come with a warranty?
The warranty is another biggie to think about. Some manufacturers will only honor a warranty if you buy the flat iron in a salon. I would consider that a fine idea if the salon in my area carried every flat iron. Truth is, they don’t. But I have noticed the irons they do carry are way more expensive than online. What gives?
If you are buying a flat iron in a store or online, look for a flat iron that has a 1 year warranty or longer - think HAI, ghd, Babyliss. We’ve all heard the rumors about a certain flat iron that breaks after only a few months. Honestly, it does. You might want to think about it. ‘Nuff said.
If you use a flat iron every day you want it to last. Make sure you select a flat iron guaranteed to survive your daily styling habits. If you use a flat iron sporadically, go for a less expensive Ceramic iron without all the technological bells and whistles.
I hope you take the time to ask yourself these simple questions, the flat iron of your dreams is waiting for you!

The Right Tanning Lotion Can Help You Achieve Your Goals

When it comes to tanning lotion, there truly is something for everyone. Whether you’re a sun worshiper, a tanning bed aficionado, or an advocate of sunless tans, you can find products that will give you that healthy, year-round glow.
For days spent poolside or at the beach, or even for sessions at your local tanning salon, you’ll want tanning lotions or tanning bed lotions that both speed up the tanning process and protect your skin. In effect, you want a lotion that enhances the UVA rays while shielding you from the effects of UVB rays. To this end, find a lotion that contains tyrosine, since it sends melatonin production into overdrive and allows you to accelerate the tanning process. Then, make sure your tanning bed lotion contains Vitamin E, an anti-oxidant that will prevent damage from free radicals, as well as nutrients like aloe vera or hempseed oil that will moisturize and rejuvenate your skin.
Many people find that, when it comes to achieving a quick and even tan, legs can be problematic. Most people’s legs simply don’t tan as quickly as other parts of the body, since there is less blood flow (and, hence, less oxygen) to that area. If this is a challenge in your tanning process, try a tingle tanning lotion. This special formulation increases the blood flow to the capillaries closest to your skin, increasing the oxygen to your legs and helping the tanning process along.
Some people become frustrated that they’re not achieving the results they desire within the time frame that they had hoped. If this is a challenge you face, it could be because you’re either not choosing the right tanning lotion or not properly applying your tanning lotion. First, you need to buy a high quality lotion. When you do, you’ll achieve your desired results in a fraction of the time. The extra money you spend on tanning bed lotion, for example, will be more than offset by less money spent at the tanning salon.
Next, exfoliate before you apply your tanning lotion. It doesn’t make sense to tan skin cells that your body is about to slough off. Then, apply the lotion about an hour before you hit the sun or the salon. Be sure to wear loose-fitting clothing so the lotion doesn’t rub off. If you’re going to the pool or the beach, make sure to select tanning lotions that are waterproof or water-resistant, and then reapply it throughout the day.
Finally, complete coverage is a must. If you don’t have a friend handy to get to those hard-to-reach areas, invest in a lotion applicator so that you can reach all areas of your back.
For those who long for the healthy glow of a tan, but don’t want to expose their skin to UVA or UVB rays, an indoor tanning lotion is the answer. A variety of excellent sunless tanning products are available that will give you the color you seek. Alternately, bronzers will give you a temporary tan that will easily wash off with soap and water.
When applied correctly, a great tanning lotion will help you achieve your tanning goals and look your absolute best!
